Kelowna BC Truck Racks for Work, Play, and Overlanding

November 18, 2019

Rack Attack Team

No matter what you need your truck rack for: work, play, overlanding, or even just the good looks; Rack Attack is your local Kelowna Truck Rack Specialist.

Let's be perfectly clear: Rack Attack is not a dedicated truck accessory store. We stock and sell a fair amount of truck accessories, but we have “Rack” in our name for a reason. From our first day in business (over 20 years ago in Vancouver!) Rack Attack has focused almost exclusively on racks. If you're looking for a lift and some 36's we're not the spot. But if you need a roof rack, truck rack, tonneau cover, headache rack, running boards, or seat covers, Rack Attack simply can't be beat!

We install everything we sell and guarantee our work for as long as you own your vehicle.

When it comes to truck racks there are a wide variety of types and options. What you need is going to depend on a combination of the truck you're driving and what you're looking to put on it. The list below highlights some of our most popular truck racks. For a solution specific to your needs just give our Kelowna location a call or drop by:

Rack Attack Kelowna

Note about Tonneau Covers: Some of the racks below will work with an installed Tonneau cover. It's important to understand these racks only work with specific Tonneau covers with a bed-rail slot or groove, such as the ReTrax XR (sold and installed by Rack Attack as well). If you have any questions call our store for more details on compatibility.

Yakima OutPost HD

  • Primary Use: Overlanding
  • Weight Limit: 500lbs (300lbs offroad)
  • Works with Tonneau Cover: Yes (requires Tonneau Kit)
  • Adjustable Bar Spread: Yes (when mounted to a track with a Tonneau Kit)
  • Adjustable Bar height: No
  • Locking: Yes (included)
  • Colour: Black

The OutPost HD by Yakima is possibly the best overlanding rack you can put on your truck. With a fixed height of 13” it's been designed perfectly for mounting a roof top tent without obstructing the view from your rear window, and still allowing you access into your box. The rack includes multiple heavy duty tie down locations for securing your loads.

Yakima has chosen to sell the OutPost separately from the HD cross bars required to complete the rack. This allows you to choose longer bars if you so desire, giving you more space for mounting additional items, such as awnings.

Best of all, the rack itself looks fantastic. Therefore, it's the rack one of our favorite employees has chosen for his personal 2019 Ford Ranger.

Yakima OverHaul HD

  • Primary Use: Mixed (Overlanding, Play, Work)
  • Weight Limit: 500lbs (300lbs offroad)
  • Works with Tonneau Cover: Yes (requires Tonneau Kit)
  • Adjustable Bar Spread: Yes (when mounted to a track with a Tonneau Kit)
  • Adjustable Bar height: Yes
  • Locking: Yes (included)
  • Colour: Black

The OverHaul HD is essentially the same as the OutPost HD, only the rack has some height adjustment. The OverHaul can be adjusted from 19” to 30” giving you more versatility on your carrying configuration and options. One note: The OverHaul's height adjustment is done by loosening screws and manually adjusting the height. While it's a quick and easy process without a heavy load on the bars, it's not really made to be adjusted while carrying something heavy.

The rack includes the same tie down locations as the OutPost and comes separately from the HD cross bars giving you the perfect fit for your needs. If you need a more versatile truck rack, or just want more height than the OutPost, you'll be hard pressed to find a more functional and beautiful rack than the OverHaul.

Thule Xsporter Pro

  • Primary Use: Mixed (Play, Work, Overlanding)
  • Weight Limit: 450lbs (offroad unrated)
  • Works with Tonneau Cover: No
  • Adjustable Bar Spread: No
  • Adjustable Bar height: Yes
  • Locking: Yes (included)
  • Colour: Black, Silver

Thule's Xsporter Pro (500XTB/500XTS) is the premier truck rack for those wanting height adjustment. Adjusting the height of your bars requires no tools: just spin the knobs on the inside of the rack. The rack itself looks great, carries almost as much as the Yakima HD racks, and even comes with cross bars and load stops included.

The cross bars are 71” long giving you plenty of room for your gear. Because the Xsporter lowers by dropping the uprights into the inside of your box this rack can not be used with any Tonneau cover.

Thule TracRac SR XT

  • Primary Use: Work
  • Weight Limit: 1,000lbs (offroad unrated)
  • Works with Tonneau Cover: Yes
  • Adjustable Bar Spread: Yes
  • Adjustable Bar height: No
  • Locking: Yes (With additional locking wing knobs sold separately)
  • Colour: Silver

If you use your truck for work the TracRac SR is the best truck rack you can buy. It's so solid it reinforces your truck, and mounts without any drilling or bolting. Made from heavy duty aluminum this rack weighs just 77lbs, carries 1,000lbs, and will never rust.

The SR requires TracRac base rails (sold separately) installed on your bed first. Once those are mounted the rack slides in on top letting you easily adjust the spread of your two bars on the fly. There is a selection of accessories available for the TracRac including mounts for toolboxes and “headache” extensions for protecting the roof of your cab.

Thule TracRac TracOne

  • Primary Use: Work
  • Weight Limit: 800lbs (offroad unrated)
  • Works with Tonneau Cover: No
  • Adjustable Bar Spread: No
  • Adjustable Bar height: No
  • Locking: No
  • Colour: Black, Silver

The little brother to the SR, this rack gives you the quality and durability of the TracRac SR, but at a much lower cost. This truck rack mounts directly to the box requiring no base rails. While this does prohibit you from adjusting the spread of your two bars, it greatly reduces the cost of the complete rack system.

The TracOne weighs just 50lbs, is made from the same high grade aluminum, and can carry a whopping 800lbs.

The Others

We have a variety of other truck racks available as well, but they are typically more niche and specific. The truck racks listed above cover the needs of just about everyone, but if you're looking for something different here's a quick look at some additional options:

Need: Lowest possible height

Yakima BedRock HD.

The BedRock mounts Yakima HD bars just a couple inches above your bed. They can carry up to 300lbs (180lbs offroad) and can work with slot/groove style Tonneau covers (same as the other Yakima Racks up there).

Need: Full Cab Coverage

Thule TracRac Universal Steel Rack

This rack is made for those truck owners constantly hauling ladders and building materials. Powder coated steel round tubing allows for 1,000lbs carrying with a simple no-drill installation.

Need: Ladders Only

Thule TracRac Contractor Ladder Rack

This is a specialty rack made only to carry (up to two) ladders. Gives you nearly full access to your box while providing a secure mount for your ladders.

If you have any other specific needs (such as super duty trucks, or if you just want to carry lighter weight items, such as bikes, skis, snowboards, etc.) just give us a call at (250) 984-0573 and we will find the solution you need.
