2010 Toyota Corolla Hitch & Roof Racks

August 19, 2010

Rack Attack Team

Options, options, options... Thats what this 2010 Toyota Corrola has after stopping in at the Twin Cities Rack Attack location. With a complete roof rack AND a brand new trailer hitch and hitch rack this Toyota Corolla is ready for almost anything.

We started creating this "rack mobile" by installing a Curt hitch on the rear of the vehicle and coupling that with a Yakima Doubledown 2. And what a beautiful couple they are. The Doubledown 2 is an affordable hitch rack from Yakima that carries 2 bicycles and fits in both 1 1/4″ and 2″ hitch receivers. The rack also folds down out of the way to allow access to the vehicles trunk or tailgate by just simply removing the bikes and pulling up the spring loaded pin that holds it in place.

When not in use the Doubledown 2's arms also fold down out of the way to make parallel parking on the busy city streets just as if it weren't even there (just don't forget that it is!) The threaded hitch pin holds the rack securely in place in the hitch receiver so there will be very little movement, and very little noise compared to those hitch racks using a normal hitch pin and cotter pin. The Doubledown 2 is perfect for the budget minded person looking for a basic rack to transport their bikes around town.

To expand on the already rack'd up car we added a permanently installed Yakima Landing Pad setup. A professionally installed permanent roof rack creates a very strong, sturdy, and versatile system capable of carrying nearly any load from a cargo box, to a boat, to bikes and boards. In this particular model we decided to use Yakima Landing Pad 6’s and Control Towers with 48″ crossbars.

The Landing Pad and Control Tower setup us one of the easiest racks to remove and then again reinstall after the initial installation. Just simply unlock the tower and snap back the cover of all 4 towers and lift the bars off of the roof and you’re left with just the landing pads and covers.

Reinstallation is equally fast as the only thing to do is set the towers back into the landing pads snap the covers forward and lock them back up. The Landing Pad application is great for anyone that needs a rack but would like the option of taking the bars off and on the roof with extreme ease. No measuring needed!!!
